Transfer of information between MyU3A and a local workstation
There is a free program called WinSCP which you can download to any PC that you want to use for transfer of information, such as Badge Data, PayPal information (if you use the PayPal/Credit Card/Debit Card facilities), Priority Scores (if you use the priority system), voting roll, billing details, etc. It will not work on a Mac but you may be able to use a Windows emulator if you need to use a Mac for transfer of files. Search for WinSCP download to find it. There is a portable version that you can store on a memory stick or USB drive if you need to use it at your U3A premises and are not allowed to load programs on the workstations there.
Setup for WinSCP:
New site:
File Protocol: scp
Host name: myu3a01.myu3a.net
port number: (default)
username: u3aDD
password: (the password given to you)
Click on Advanced button:
Directories
Remote directory: /home/u3aDD
Local direct: (to suit your local workstation)
All other settings: leave unchanged. Click on OK.
Click on Save, change the site name to suit, e.g., U3A Uuuuuuuu
Tick save password if your workstation is kept in a secure location. This will avoid the need to enter the password each time.
Tick Create desktop shortcut if desired.
Click Login to log in or Close to finish.
When logged in you will see the local workstation directory on the left and your U3As server In/Out directory on the right. Files may be dragged from one to another.
If you want to keep large numbers of files, keep them on the local workstation.
TeamViewer:
There is also a commercial program, free for personal use, that is very useful if you need me or one of the Level 2 support people to show you how to do something on your own workstation. Search for TeamViewer Download Free.
