Membership Renewal

There are two ways in which membership can be handled:

Annual Renewal. Membership is renewed based on a calendar year. If a person joins on say 1st May, 2010, that membership expired on 31st December, 2010 and is renewed from 1st January, 2011.
Cyclic Renewal. Membership is effective for a term defined for each membership grade, starting on the joining date and renewed following the end of each membership term. If a person joins on 1st May, 2010 for a 12 month membership term, that membership expires on 30th April, 2011 and is renewed from 1st May, 2011.

The Membership renewal method is defined in the Options App in the Configuration section.

Membership Grades and Terms

The grades of membership are defined in the Member Types app. For Annual memberships, the term is always the calendar year. For Cyclic memberships, the term may defined as a number of calendar months which may exceed 12 months.

There are some grades of membership that are predefined: Honorary, Life, Full, Associate, Couples and Guest. Further grades of membership may be defined specifically for your U3A as required in the Member Types App.

Membership Renewal

Annual Membership

The date from which memberships may be renewed Membership Open for Next Year is specified in the Options app in the Members section. The Next Year is specified in the Next Year section of the Options app.

Cyclic Membership

Renewal of membership is available for the number of months prior to the expiry date as specified for Renewal Available in the Member section of the Options app.

If a Grace Days has been specified in the Member section of the Options app, membership is terminated that number of days following expiry.

A renewal notice is sent automatically at midnight the number of days prior to expiry as specified for Renewal Notice in the Member section of the Options app.

If the membership has not been renewed or the membership fee has not been received within the number of days specified for Renewal Followup in the Member section of the Options app, a notice is sent automatically warning of termination of membership.

Expired (terminated) memberships may be renewed if specified for Expired Members in the Member section of the Options app, otherwise the member must rejoin and a joining fee will be charged (if applicable).

Membership Fees

Membership fees may be defined for each grade of membership effective from a specified date in the Member Fees app.

Fees for Honorary and Life memberships are defined to be zero and cannot be changed. For all other grades of membership, the Membership, Joining, Newsletter Postage, and Summer School attendance fees may be defined as required.
