Setting Up your Workstation

These notes apply specifically to Firefox, the recommended browser to use for the Administration Apps (Private back end) of MyU3A. Slight variations may be experienced when using other browsers.

Just below the blue band at the top of the Firefox window are various tool bars. Right clicking on an empty space just below the blue band and close to the right edge of the window brings up a dialogue box which lists each tool bar available. If any of the following tool bars are not ticked, left click on that entry:
- Menu Bar
- Navigation Toolbar
- Bookmarks Toolbar
- Tabs on top
The "Addon" toolbar and Google toolbar are not used and it is recommended that these should not be ticked.
Key the following into the Navigation textbox:
http://myu3a.net/xxxxxxx/startup.html
where xxxxxx is your U3A name.
Click on Bookmarks on the Menu toolbar - a dialogue box opens. Click on "Bookmark this page". Another dialogue box opens. "U3A xxxxxxx" appears in the Name textbox. Select "Bookmark toolbar" from the dropdown list for "Folder". Next click the rightmost down-arrow to the right of the Folder line, ensure "Bookmark Toolbar" is highlighted and click on New Folder. Name this folder "U3A", click the new U3A folder to select it and then click Done.
The folder "U3A" now appears on the Bookmark Toolbar.
Click on "U3A" in the Bookmark Toolbar. Right click on "Administration Startup" and select "Copy". Click again on "U3A" in the Bookmark Toolbar. Right-click on "Administration Startup" and select "Paste" in the dialogue box.s Do this another 3 times, leaving four copies of startup menu in the U3A folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar.

You are now ready to get going.

Click on U3A on the toolbar and then on "Open all in tabs" in the dropdown list. Four tabs will appear on the tab bar.
